My New Ink
You’ve waited so patiently for pictures of my new tattoos. I’ve been a selfish procrastinator about getting the pictures up, but wait no longer. While I was in San Diego for Blogher I got three new pieces: one on my right bicep (shoulder) and one covering the inside of my right arm… whatever that area is called. I call it the axis of pain. Youch! Then some text on the inside of my right wrist.
Since cooking so isn’t me, I got all of my favorite things to cook with: red onion, garlic, Italian parsley, bottle of olive oil, chef’s knife and cutting board… with a banner that says “I’d Rather Be Cooking.” Pretty much whatever I’m doing, I’d rather be cooking. Of course, there are exceptions to that rule, but most of the time it’s a pretty safe bet.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to take a picture of your own shoulder?
On the inside of my arm, I got a Day of the Dead sugar skull. It’s a traditional design with a lot of meaning and symbolism behind it, but honestly I’ve just always liked the design and wanted one. I’m kind of a dick about tattoos, in that I hate when everything has to have a meaning or someone wants to spend an hour telling me what their flower on their ankle represents. For me, personally, I like my designs to stand on their own and I just like sugar skulls. And Thomas colored the heart in the middle of the forehead purple… because he loves me.
And I got the word Crave on the inside of my right wrist. It’s a long story, buy me a glass of wine some day and I’ll tell you all about it. Mostly, just a reminder to myself to live out loud.
This out-of-focus image brought to you courtesy of my phone.
Besides bestowing my awesome new work upon you, I’m also hooking you up with something awesome. Remember when I first introduced you to Honey Girl Organics? I still use their products RELIGIOUSLY, and given all the goodness in their moisturizers I thought to myself: Self, I bet that would be great for healing up tattoos. Man was I right.
I used to use Burt’s Bees products for healing up, even though my artist recommended run-of-the-mill vitamin E lotion (bleck, shudder). But the Super Skin Food from Honey Girl Organics completely wiped the floor with anything I’ve ever used before.
I’ve healed up my fair share of ink and the worst part is always that last phase when it gets all crazy itchy and I want to claw my skin off. I’m not kidding at all when I tell you, there was NO itchy phase, and no scabbing at all. That’s a really freaking big deal.
It’s miracle stuff. Super Skin Food is the magical, miracle tattoo healing balm. If it can do that for tattoo healing, imagine what it can do for regular skin?! But from me to you, if you’re going to heal up a tattoo any time soon get some of this stuff and use it once you’re past the part where you need antibiotic ointment and on to the lotion stages. Then come back and kiss my ass for the great advice.
Now, since I was your sacrificial guinea pig and offered myself up as an experimental tattoo application tester, Honey Girl is letting me give away one of their products to one of my readers. Go over to their website, look at their product catalogue and tell me which product you’d like if you won. BAM! You’re entered. I’ve used almost every product in their line and I can tell you that there are no bad choices.
Extra entries (you have to leave a SEPARATE comment for each to get all of your entries):
2. Follow @MarkAtHoneyGirl on Twitter. He’s got the driest sense of humor and I totally dig it, plus it gets you an extra entry!
3. Like their Facebook page.
4. Leave a comment on their Facebook wall that says: “I entered to win Stay At Home Babe’s giveaway & saw that your Super Skin Food is a magical tattoo healer.”
5. Tweet this: “I entered to win an AWESOME @MarkAtHoneyGirl skincare product of my choice in @stayathomebabe’s #giveaway http://bit.ly/qLBdG9.” …. You see that little tweet button in the top, right-hand corner of the post? Just click that and copy and paste that sentence in there. How easy is that?!
Disclaimer: I received my product for free, but I approached them about using their products to heal my tattoo and I did so at my own risk… since I was a human guinea pig. I was not compensated in any way for my findings or my review, all opinions above are my own. As such, if you don’t heal your tattoo up nicely and your arm gets infected and falls off, you’ll have to sue someone else because I’m not a doctor and you should have washed better or something.
